A Guide to Basic Billiards Equipment

The game of billiards, commonly called the "pool" is popular in many regions around the world and almost ubiquitous in every bar, lounge, recreation center game center in America. You have almost certainly played the game, or at least seen a Pool Table somewhere in your life. While you can know a lot or very little knowledge about factors associated with pool, this simple guide is intended to briefly discuss some details of the six main elements of the instruments involved.

The largest and most important piece of equipment is obviously the Billiard Table. The entire game takes place on the table. Billiard tables are half as wide as are long and are usually seven, eight or nine meters in length. Serious pool rooms have 9 foot tables for serious players. Bar will generally coin-op, 7 foot tables to save space. Most of the 8-foot tables are designed for homeowners who need a balance of quality and size.

Billiard tables have six pockets; rubber bumpers between the pockets, a base of thick, smooth and level of solid slate, and is covered with a cloth playing surface. Cloth playing surface is commonly called the "feel". While there is a sense of feeling, is actually called a fabric cloth. Baize is a fabric of wool that is sometimes mixed with nylon.

Another obvious part of a game of billiards is the balls. More commonly in the modern game's fifteen balls number from one to fifteen, plus the ball Solid White cue. However, a popular variation uses only nine games. The balls are colored with the balls from 1 to 8 colors are solid and balls 9 to 15 is marked with a colored band. In billiards the game is played trying to hit balls into the pockets to buy first strike with the Cue Ball. The cue ball is put in motion by a cue, often defined as a stick "pool" or "Pool Cue."

Clues are made of wood, are round and taper off the grip to the tip. The tip is made of leather and is point that strikes the cue ball. The tip of a Billiard Cue is usually covered in plaster applied.

More subtle piece of bowling equipment is gypsum. Chalk comes in cubes that are about 1 inch. Before each shot players apply chalk to the tip of their claims. Chalk creates friction as the tip of the cue strikes the cue ball and allows for some forgiveness for less than perfect shots.

Another fine piece of bowling equipment is called the rack. The rack is used only to help set the game up. It 'a triangle of wood or plastic used to form up to 15 balls in a triangle formation.

Finally, there is a called the bridge, sometimes called the "rake". The bridge is much like a splint with the addition of a rake-shaped piece of metal on the tip. The bridge is used to help a player to make long shots on the fence. The bridge is on the table, the Cue Stick is rested to the plate and the deck increases the player got to make the shot. While there are other items associated with billiards, these are some of the fundamentals that every player should know.

Astonishing answers to unspoken questions revealed! One of the reasons the author wrote this book is because of the failure of other pool writers to go deeper in explaining things happening on top of the pool table. Years of regular issues of pool magazines and the emergence of pool instructors in countries where the game is popular, yet it took the publication of this book to advance the knowledge in pocket billiards. This book is also an excellent guide for pool instructors, players of any level, pool stick and Cue Tip makers.
